How to mount engine on stand?

Is an engine normally put on an engine stand with the pulley end facing outward. If so, looks like I will have to remove the clutch and flywheel to have enough clearance to mount it. Has anyone ever mounted one up and worked on it this way. I would like the timing cover accessible as I will be changing it out.

Don't know about Cub engines yet but on car engines I've always had the timing cover facing outward.

Yes that is the best way to hang the engine. Remove the pressure plate, clutch and flywheel and bolt the brackets thru the bell housing bolt holes.

This is the most common method of mounting for smaller engines.

You are correct in placing the motor on the stand with the timing cover facing out. You may have to make a mounting plate/adapter to match the holes on the stand with the holes in the back of the block.

EZ Pulley facing out.Take the the flywheel off.I like George's way .I just read a couple of posts before. I used his way to put my oil pump on and my rear seal, touque my flywheel.A Lot easier than the stand.
