Woods Belt and blades

I was dropped in my tracks when the lady quoted me the price over the phone for a woods belly mower belt $55.00 and $45.00 for the blade set. I miss my blacksmith, he used to make my double sided blades for $20.00 a set, and he thought the price was high. I am still runing the a set he made for me, hopefully they will last for a while. Any input to less expensive belts and blades would be appreciated.

Cheaper belts stretch easily and many are not designed to twist like the Woods belts are. In the long run, considering time and aggravation, spend the money for the better belt. Use your blades as long as you can. They ain't gonna get any cheaper.

I have to agree, must say I have been running the same belt for the past 6 to 7 years. It was purchased from IH dealer in LA. I will pick up blades and belt Thursday on my way to Mardi Gras parade.

Almost forgot about Mardi Gras. It was just about a year ago when we went on the Great Cajun Cub Quest.

Charles,

Some of the Woods belts are higher! The one on my L-306 is pennies under $100. They really are much better made and worth more. They'll out-last the cheaper belts many times over... unless you do something stupid like I did. They have to be run REAL tight or even TIGHTER. I installed a new one and hit some heavy stuff when way down the creek on the walking path. I noticed it slipping. I thought I'd work my way back to the shop and tighten it. By the time I got there, the belt had flipped over and stretched one side... it was junk! !#$%^&*() The dealer was glad to see me, he had another one.
