I am sure this has been discussed in the past but I am thinking of converting my 58 cub. Could anyone post or email me directions and a detailed parts list I will need? thanks

Here is one place using a Hitachi 14231 alternator.

Here is another using a GM SI 10 alternator. It is on a Ford N site but will work on a cub. The wireing diagram is near the bottom of the page.

I am new to this forum, I am not a mechanic, and it has been some decades since I last sat astried a Farmall or Ford 8N tractor. That said... after looking at the above post about 12 volt conversion for a Farmall Cub, an old memory surfaced. The Ford 8N and 9N series, if I remember correctly, both had positive ground. The Farmalls I have driven did not, so far as I can recall. Now, the wiring diagram and the described procedure for the Ford could probably be adapted for use on the Farmalls... but I suspect that because of the polarity difference, some things in the wiring diagram might need to be changed. If I am mistaken, I appologize for messing up your forum, but I'd hate to hear about someone missing this and frying an electrical device or worse.

As far as I know, (not much) ALL cubs were factory delivered with positive (+) ground.

Converting to 12 volt you have to go to negative ground or you will burn out the built in regulator of the alternator. The starter will work fine. You should change the lite bulbs to 12 volt. You can hook the bulbs up in series but if one burns out the both go out. Unless you change to a 12 volt coil you will have to use a 12 to 6 volt dropping resistor. Most any other electrical eqipment will have to be 12 volt.
