Wow, a 5 year old thread brought back to the top.
I don't think it would matter that much where John lives, He is in MO., not the bone chilling frozen north.
I bet if he was at full throttle in 2nd gear and hit a stump or curb in the summer time, it would do the same thing.

You didn't make a mistake, you created a learning experience for others.
On a more serious note, with the snow season upon us a lot of new members may be plowing for the first time. This will serve as a good reminder of things to watch for.

In the big city 3rd is fast. I much prefer to be 'put-puting' along. Granite curbstones vs a 54, my money is on the granite!
I surely felt your pain when it happened EJP, and learned from it. Probably owe you some money for the stuff I didn't break

That break can be welded and reinforced much better than new.
