I just purchased a new belt for my wood belly mower and would like to know the proper belt tension?

Charles, measure the distance from the center of the drive pulley, to one of the idler pulleys. When the belt is tight, you should be able to deflect the belt at the mid point between the pulleys 1 inch for every foot of distance between them.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
