Installing new rings.

Just got a new set of rings for the '67 Loboy.

These rings are from Case/IH dealer. The oil control ring is one piece, as opposed to alot of them you see as 3 pieces. This is not including the expander spring which is installed in the groove first. I used a set of Hastings rings in my '49, they were easy to install, as there were 3 pieces and the thin metal was easy to manipulate.

I am afraid of breaking the oil control ring during installation with these IH rings though as they are quite stiff. I broke 2 of the old ones trying to get them off.

Anybody have any tips for installing the oil control ring. I have a ring spreader, but have been told to "spiral" the rings on.

EZ, it is my experience that spiraling rings on is a great way to break them!! New rings shouldn't be as brittle as the old ones were. Use the ring expander to expand the ring so it JUST fits over the piston, and carefully slide it down to the groove. (my 2C)
