Due to the wear on the governor shaft teeth edges from riding on an oil seal that was installed to deep I don't know were the timing mark is. I was just going to buy a new shaft but can't seem to find one and if I do I can't figure out how to disassemble the governor to replace it. It's funny the service manual gives you an illustration of all the pparts and explains how to check for wear and how to clean them but doesn't mention how to disassemble it. So if someone can explain were the timing mark is I will just reuse my existing governor. I would also be interested in knowing if a new shaft is available and how to install it. On my governor (251447 R1) the timing mark is a single dot. It is a small round indentation that is on the tooth located immediately below one of the slots in the rear governor drive. As you view the governor from the rear, the above part number should be punched on the back face of the gear drive. The referenced slot is the one counterclockwise from the part number.

I do not know if other governors have the timing mark located in the same location.......Bill V.

Thanks for the replys. Here is what's left of my mark. Looks like you both have confirmed it's not just a pit in the metal!

You might want to apply a center punch to make the mark easier to see.

I took some "Liquid Paper" and painted the whole tooth. Made it easier to see when going back together.
