Belt Pulley Assembly Leaking

Postby Brent » Sun Mar 21, 2004 10:03 am

:( I replaced the oil seals in my belt pulley assembly recently and they don't leak. However, oil is leaking from around the shaft splines where the pulley drive shaft goes through the bushing. I can't find any other seal and the manual doesn't show anything unless I'm missing something. Can't find anything in the archives either. Has anyone else had this problem and if so is there a simple fix?

Brent Duxbury; I'm not sure which end you are having problems, but i had to take the output shaft cover, spacers, and bearing apart on mine a second time  seems i neglected to silicone gasket EACH shim prior to assembly. letting it dry now, i'll refill in the morning, but i think i solved that wet spot.

Artc,

Mine is leaking around the output shaft between the shaft and the bushing the shaft runs through. Is that where yours leaked?

only two things i can think of. one, you have overfilled the unit. or two, the drain hole in the output shaft cover is not lined up with all the shims, or is plugged with gasket maker. that might leave enough fluid accumulating in the outer area to leak around the spacer bushing. is your pulley attached?

artc,

 I think I found the problem. It had about 15 oz. of oil in it. Should have about 5 or 3/4 of a pint. I think when I filled it I must have looked at the wrong spec in the owners manual. Thanks for your help.
