Hello everybody, this is a wonderful site! I couldn't resist myself, I picked up a second cub, a 1951 with hydralics! It had a 12 volt battery on a 6 volt system . When i got it home I couldn't turn her over! It acted as the battery had no juice! I replaced the battery with a new fully charge 6v and replaced the regulator, and it still wouldnt turn here over. So, I replaced the starter with the one from the 48 cub and replaced the battery cables, it turned over and started right up and purred like a kitten ! The next morning, tried to start her again but the battery couldn't turn her! I thinking of two things: 1, Bad wiring in the harness causing grounding? and 2, problem with engine? (stiff and hard to turn) Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

Did you by any chance re-use the same starter switch? I think I'd dis-assemble the switch and check the contacts for pitting and burning.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Thank you Bigdog for the advice on the starter switch. I did replace the old one with a new, and also cleaned the copper terminal on top of the starter. Not much difference! Also thank you everyone on the advice on cub #1! It's funny how both cubs have electrical problems!

Go back and clean & check all connections & cables. Is the battery holding a charge or is something draining it?

Is your ground cable still connected to the battery box? They tend to rust up and lose connection. Try using a jumper cable from the ground post to a bolt on the starter. Also try turning the engine by hand to make sure the starter isn't locked.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Hi nenenick,
Had one with the same symptoms as yours. I replaced battery, re-worked
the starter, and replaced the starter switch. Same thing. I then removed the
switch and found that the metal plate that makes contact inside the switch
had gotten turned 90 degrees. Turned it around an whamoo she fired right
up, this was two years ago and no more trouble.
Worth checking. Good luck!!
