Radiator support advice

Postby Slappy » Tue Mar 23, 2004 7:51 am

Can I remove the radiator supports without fear of having the gasket leak? Two of the screws holding on the fan shroud have been twisted off and I can get them out easier if I work with them on the bench.

Thanks.

Slap,

I had the same problem. Did my best to get a drill in there and managed to drill out the screw and replace it. You may need one of those offset drill adapters depending on location of the broken screws.

You can try removing the bolts as well from the supports, of course you will have to drain the rad. If it's not leaking now, it should not leak after. Go careful though the bolts may be rusted in good.

Good luck.

One of my cubs came without radiator support brackets and although I have them painted and ready to install, I have been running the tractor for over a year without them with no leaks to date.
Can't guarantee that yours won't leak, but mine didn't.

Slappy, with th ecubs that we've dis-assembled, I've found the bottom flange of the rad to be stuck down pretty good, BUT sure as you don't want the flange to come loose, that'll be the one that does!!
