Took apart the carburetor, Need advice.
It amazes me this old tractor would run at all. It seems these old gals never give up. The latest find in in the carb. The inlet screen was pluged with trash, that's an easy fix, but I've never seen one this clogged and still run. The bigger problem is the IDLE TUBE (251331R1), is it supposed to be threaded at the top? The casting apears to have threads but the tube has a rough edge and just fell out. Next question: Can you still get one of these? It was not included in the rebuild kit from Case/IH Finally, and what may be the biggest problem, the top is obviously warped; the corner where the part number is stamped is raised up. Is there a fix for this or am I looking at a Zenith replacement here? I've already spent $50.00 on a rebuild kit. Thanks for the advice.

The idle tube is threaded and is still available from Case IH. As far as straightening the warped body, there is discussion on this in the archives But basically, if you're careful, you can place some washers between the halves except for where the gap is, and try to pull the high side down.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

How would the gasket seal ifyou put washers in there? Sorry, but thats not real clear to me. I tried a search, but didn't find much, seems like George Willer had a picture showing trueing one up on a milling machine once upon a time.

Just use the washers as spacers without a gasket on the low sides to straighten the body by tightening the screw / screws on the high side (no washers at the gap). Then remove the washers, insert the gasket and assemble the body.

I had troubles like you describe with my 57 Loboy. I did this; did that...blah blah blah till I finally just went and got a brand new sediment bowl with screen (keeps the trash out) and a professionally rebuilt IH carburetor. After I got that all on and re-calibrated the governor linkage it's been a complete NON-ISSUE !
I'd say that every orifice and passageway in your carb is as gunked up as what you can see with your eyes.

Daniel,
I'll take another shot at it. It requires 5 washers all the same. Four of the washers are used as spacers. The halves are assembled with the spacers between, one under each screw, and the last washer is used as a gauge when the top half is bent back in shape. It can usually be straightened enough to be serviceable, but some machine work can improve it further.
It may help to explain why they get bent in the first place. It's from over tightening the screws and compressing the gasket. It isn't spontaneous... the mechanic does it a little more each time the carburetor is assembled.
Here's the picture on the milling machine.

Daniel,
They are 4-48 and IH still has idle tubes available. If you can't find the tap locally, order one over the internet from Brownell's.

If the new idle tube is loose, try Loctite to hold it together. It will need at least 24 hours curing time.
