Almost finished putting the engine back together on 49-1. I was looking at the oil pump gasket I bought. IT'S A PIECE OF PAPER!!! It's only .004" thick.

Is this the correct gasket :?: :?: :?:

Thanks

Hey Donny,

Boy, I sure hope so because my '50 looks the same. Just check the price and you will see that it must be genuine rice paper from, well you know,
where. Ha!

Glad to see you almost have it back together.

By-the-way, when ya coming south again?

Thanks Russ,
I wasn't going to use it unless someone confirmed it was correct.

Yes I will be heading your way sometime soon. The suits are trying to decide who will pay to take the antenna off the tower ect. I'll be sure to let you and Bud know.

Paul,

I think you're talking about the oil filter cover gasket.

The oil pump is at the rear of the engine next to the fly wheel.

If you don't have the tractor split then you can't see it from there.

I think it is so thin because the gears have to run tight to the block or else the pump wouldn't build enough pressure.

Paper thin,in fact mine was creased. had to put it in my gss-1411 manual for a while before i installed it. to flaten it out.

Yes, like Daniel H said, the thickness of the gasket determines the end play of the pump gears. If thick gasket material was used, the end play would be subject to variation from how much the material compressed.

Gasket sets for some engines have 2 oil pump gaskets so you can select the one that provides the better fit.
