Final Drives rebuild

I need to replace the the outer axle seal, the one right next to the wheel hub. My manual says to "press" the bearings off etc....Are there any special tools required for this job other than the torque wrench when putting bearings back in?
That seal will cost $49.00Cdn. at CASE/IH, don't really want to screw this one up.

I just re-sealed the finals on John's tractor and dad's tractor. Once the bearing is pressed off the axle, all you will need to put it back on is a hammer and a flat-nosed punch (nothing sharp). Make sure you put the gasket on with the seal and make sure the bearing goes back on the right way. Also, pay close attention as to where the shims may go if there are any in the final drive. The torque wrench is used a little later on.

Rear Seals

I'm in the middle of doing the same with my cub. Tried a hydraulic press to get the bearing off with no luck. Ended up grinding down the bearing and cut the outer seal off. That sure was on some wicked hard. I hope the new bearing goes back on easier. Mud season is almost over.

a bearing separator will work nicely to remove the outer bearing. a modification of bill poors front pulley setup will work just fine, just need a smaller 'C' piece.

a piece of 1 and 1/2 (i think) conduit will drive the bearing back on straight.

I used some heat from the Blue tip wrench along with a bearing seperator to remove my bearings . To reassemble I put the axle shafts in the chest freezer over night The next morning I fired up the wood stove in the shop and placed the new bearings on the top of the stove untill they were too hot to handle with a bare hand . Then I reassembled them To my surprise the bearing slipped right over the axle shaft without any hammering. Steve

When I was down to pressing the bearing off, I took the whole unit to my auto repair guys who did it on their shop press for me.
