Hood Question

Just a simple question about the hole in the hood for the exhaust.

Does the hole for the exhaust have a turned up lip or is it supposed to be flat :?: :?:

My 55 has underslung exhaust (the hole has been patched) and 49-2 is flat (not turned up) 49-1 has a partial lip (just the back).

Donny,

Here's more than you wanted to know...

The exhaust hole is flat, and not round.

The intake hole is turned up.

The hole for the radiator cap is turned down.

The generator oil holes are flat.

The gas tank hole requires a cap.

And the cap should be one of the new safety caps.

Mr. GW

Thanks for the info. Looks like I have some tin knocken to do on the exhaust.

By the way...are you sure the gas tank really needs a cap? Would masking tape due? Or maybe a shop rag? Got a light?

Donny, My exhaust hole is same as you describe. I figured it was caused by years of vibration rubbing against the stack. When you do your tin-knocking let me know your trial & error methods so it will be easier for me. :P

JB,

You should take a drive and see first hand :!: :!: Course it may take a couple of days on that mower of yours. :P :P

:!: Besides the slow motion-mower ride, it would be to dangerous on I-5 in this damb rain with no wipers.

Donny:

Ellie-Mae has a real mess of a patch job on the hood right around the exhaust hole.

I sure would appreciate tips/tricks/pattern as you go through your hole  restoration
