Sediment bowl replacement

Well, While I work on fixing the fuel leak (close to $2.00 / gallon now) I will replace the sediment bowl with a on/off valve. Can anyone tell me the thread size I need to fit into the gas tank?

A stock sediment bowl comes with a needle 'on-off' valve. You screw it in and out to shut-off the fuel.

What I mean is while I have my leaky unit off trying to ix it I want to put a temporary line in place. Screw it into the gas tank where the sediment bowl assembly was and feed the carb. With 4 children competing for my time I may have the leaky unit off for a while.
You are thinking I am better off just buying a replacement huh?

Why come the picture at TM looks like it doesn't have the shutoff stem?

What I did was to take my fuel bowl assembly with me to my local fittings dealer. He set me up with a plug for the hole where the shut off valve goes, and a ball valve assembly to go into the fuel line side. I haven't had any more leaks. Cost me a total of about $3.50.... this was after I bought the complete deal from my local IH dealer. The one they now stock is the same one in the pic from TM Tractor Parts.
The new L-style shut off valve is useless as far as I am concerned. A: it is difficult to shut off completely and B: it hurts!
Now with the ball valve, just lift up or push down the lever. Works real good
Now I am a happy camper.
When I restore Ellie, then I will try to find a replacement shut-off or petcock valve with the t-style handle. That works, or maybe I will try to rebuild mine.

The L shape on the right is the handle to cut if off and on. Loosen the packing to make it easier to turn and tighten to keep from leaking. As you use it it will get looser then start leaking then you tighten. Turning all the way on will cause it to leak less. Back seat they call it.

Jim's picture shows what may be a new one just like what I think is the original on Scruffy. I cleaned it up, replaced the gasket and screen, and added 3 rounds of packing under the packing nut. After installing it and reinstalling the tank, I made up a new steel fuel line. It wan't really that big a job. There are no leaks whatever. I wouldn't screw with a temporary.

Yes you can buy just the bowl from your CIH dealer. NAPA sells the screen and gasket like the dealer has also. Lowes has the string for the packing.

OEM sells the sediment bowl with the T type rather than the L handle for $26. If I remember correctly Jp Tractor has them for aobut $22.

Don't get the graphite packing, it dissolves in gasoline. However, the Teflon packing works very well.

I bought a brand new sediment bowl assembly in the box this morning at my local Case IH dealer for $16!
