54 Cub Light switch

Postby jsherman » Thu May 13, 2004 3:20 pm

For some reason the leadout to my rear light from my light switch on my Cub is putting out less than 1 volt, any thoughts? The fuse is good the ignition is getting full voltage. Do the switches go bad? The headlights are not hooked up but should that matter?

Thanks,
Jim

Switch contacts will corrode over time. If your lights have been unhooked for a while and the switch hasn't been used, it is a likely source of your problem. If you're careful, you can dis-assemble and clean the switch. Just remember, it's 50 years old, take it slow and careful.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

You can find good used originals from J.P. Tractor Salvage or T.M. Tractor Parts/ Both advertize on this site. I believe Carter & Gruenewald or OEM Tractor parts stock them new.
