Need Help Finding Steel

I know this is not a Cub question, but I have a little problem, and I know y'all can probably help out.

My BIL and I are building a bracket for his basket and we cannot get a piece of steel that we need here east of Toronto so far. We have been looking for over a week and still no luck.

I need to get hold of a piece of steel tubing 5"x7"x 3/8" walls 18" long. We have only found one place to get it, we must buy 20 feet and ship it in from Toronto..... kind of overkill.

By ANY chance, does anybody know of a place we can get a piece such as this. A name and phone number would be extremely helpful.

TIA

Rudi, did you try "Tri-province recycling" or "Neighborhood recycling" right there in Moncton?? They often have used structural and dimentional steel from salvaged buildings etc. We bought a quite a bit of 2x4 and 4x6 box steel from (I think) Neighborhood (the one at the BM exit) a couple of years ago, and they have all sizes of stuff there.

Rudi. If you come up empty handed and are desperate, I can check with a machine shop and get their price for you. Of course it would be like E-bay - "You pay for shipping". We can communicate about this via e-mail if you decide to go this route. And of course, we can name it a used "Cub Part" for under $20 ..................

Rudi,

There is a steel fabricator in St Johns called York Steel (1-800-461-0080). They may have a piece of scrap tubing that size. Meanwhile I am checking with another fabricator we do business with in Bathurst called Maritime Steel. He is going to check and call me back. I'll email you if he can find a piece of this tubing in his shop...........Bill V.

Ray and I have already thought of that. If we have to and the engineer approves we will have a channel bent and the opposing face welded. Not ideal but would work as a last resort.

Btw, for some reason of which I am not too sure   the "Cub Straps" have gone missing. I have been searching high and low and cannot for the life of me remember where I put them :? Those were exceptionally well crafted straps and it is a shame that I seem to have lost them

Bill:

Cool, let me know. I will pass on the phone number etc., to me BIL and we will see what is available. Let me know if you get an answer. Call collect if need be please. (506) 853-5103

Thanks again guys!

Oooops  David: Tri-Province was the first used stock place we tried. No luck at all surprisingly.
