Radiator Question

Well, I am finally ready to install my replacement radiator. (The Fourth of July is fast approaching.)

I have received my new gasket that I ordered from Carter & Gruenewald. And I was down at the local tractor repair job and got a recommendation to use a little bit of Perematex on the new gasket when I install the replacement radiator.

I bought two different types of Permatex and don't know which one would be best to use and was hoping I could get a recommendation here. The first tube is the Permatex Ultra Copper 101BR gasket maker and the second tube is the Permatex Blue RTV silicon 6B gasket maker. Should I use one of these? If not, what do you suggest?

Also I am assuming that I simply put a small amount on both sides of the gasket (a small bead) and that is about it. Any thing else I should know?

It should seal without any sealer. But, if I were going to use one, it would be the blue.

The radiator guy in town who fixed my gas tank has rubberized cork-tape on a roll that he uses and told me to get some from him when I get ready to install my radiator.

Has anybody here ever used the cork-tape?.

I made a gasket form .13 cork. I used an exacto knife to cut the OD and the ID. I used a piece of 11/32 thin wall brass tube to punch the holes. Didn't use any sealer and it doesn't leak. I was amazed, as glycol will leak where water will not.

Now if the oil pan gasket I bought worked as well.

As stated, it should seal with out any sealer, but a very thin layer of the blue Permatex won't hurt.
