I measured the journals again last night with better light. They measured 1.49-1.493, no grooves or high spots so I am going to get a set of .002 bearings. I think the 1.485 measurement I got in the dark was from getting the mic in the oil hole. Couple of new questions thought:
I measured the rod openings across, up and down and at a 45 degree angle between the two. The measurement was if I remember correctly 1.615, my junky freebie manual doesn't have this measurement. Does anyone know what this should be? At least I know they are concentric.
The local store says there are two rod bearing sizes a 3/4" and 5/8", I am trying to get these before this weekend and won't be home to measure before then. Is there any way to tell by year? Mine is a 1948 by the serial which was 25,xxx. By memory they look closer to a 3/4 than a 5/8.
Where can I get replacement rod bolts and nuts? The local store said they couldn't get these.

John,
The bearings you want are 3/4" wide. I haven't a clue what 5/8" wide bearings are for.

5/8??
I am not sure either. The local ih dealer said they used two different sizes in the c60 motor. He gave me some numbers that would be on the rods and gave me a serial number which was 2xx,xxx for the 5/8 bearings, so I was assuming being mine was in the 2x,xxx range I would need the 3/4. Must be on later model cubs, maybe late 60's or 70's. Do you know where to get rod bolts?
