Farmall Cub

JAMIE HAS A RED IH 1000 LOADER FOR SALE, AND I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS THAT NEED ADDRESSED BY THE PROS HERE PLEASE.

1) WITH THE LOADER ON IT LOOKS LIKE I CANNOT HAVE THE C-3 DECK ON ALSO. TRUE/FALSE

2) MAYBE THIS SHOULDA BEEN #1. WILL IT FIT ON MY 1957 LOBOY?

3) HOW MUCH OF A JOB IS IT TO SET UP AND TAKE OFF? IS IT A 'BACK' INTENSIVE CHORE?

4) WILL THE FAST HITCH HAVE TO COME OFF? IF NOT, CAN I STILL USE THE FAST HITCH..UP/DOWN? WOULD I BE ABLE TO PLOW DIRT STILL?

5) WHAT IS THE WEIGHT CAPACITY I SHOULD HOLD TO IN THE BUCKET?

6) ANY OTHER PROS AND CONS ?

ALTHOUGH THE LOADER IS A BIT PRICEY, IF IT WILL FIT THE LOBOY IT WOULD BE QUITE THE HANDY LABOR/BACK SAVER. THERE'S ALWAYS: GRAVEL; DIRT; ROCKS; MULCH; FIREWOOD; MANURE AND MORE TO BE MOVED AROUND HERE AND I CAN NO LONGER DO IT THE WAY I USED TO. THE OTHER POSSIBLE PROBLEM IS THAT IT MAKES EVEN MORE WORK HAVING TO PUT IT ON/TAKE IT OFF TO USE THE CUB FOR OTHER STUFF. IF IT FITS AND I CAN LEAVE IT ON THAT WOULD BE IDEAL.
IF IT LIMITS THE LOBOY'S OTHER WORK I'LL HAVE TO LOOK AT OTHER OPTIONS.....HEY!....MAYBE A CUB *JUST* FOR THE LOADER!!...I CAN HEAR MY SWEETIE HOWLIN ALREADY!!-

Marion, If I'm not mistaken, Lurker Carl has a 1000 loader on a lo-boy. Perhaps he will be able to answer all your questions (except for the back intensity one because I'm sure that Cathy does all his heavy lifting).

Check Rudi's website, I think he has a 1000 loader manual that you can download and get a better idea of what all is involved. Here are answers to your specific questions.

1. The mower deck has to come off. The loader frame mounts under the tractor.

2. The loader will fit a LoBoy. However, the front mounting plate MUST have the upper hole intact since that is the one used specifically for the LoBoy. If the loader had ever been mounted on a 140 with a HD front axle, that section of the mount is gone.

3. It's a bear to install and remove. Think mower deck times 2, at least, with hydraulics to boot. I installed mine by myself with levers, jacks and what not without excessive strain but it took most of a day.

4. There is an accessory that allows you to keep the fast hitch installed. Tractor hydraulics still operate independantly of the loader. A hydraulic adaptor for the Touch Control must be installed for the loader hydraulics.

5. Weight capacity is about 300-400 lbs. There are a variety of buckets available, mine has the smallest.

6. My LoBoy has a weak engine with great hydraulics. Don't need much power to run hydraulics. I use loader to haul manure, mulch, move mounds of snow and ice, etc. Overloading the bucket will stress the front of the tractor to the point of cracking the block or breaking front axle components. You'll also need to install 2 sets of rear wheel weights to counter balance the loader and load. You also need good tires to handle the weight. Consider a Cub just for the loader.

I'd also expect the cub is not very easy to stear with all that weight on the front. I can't imagine trying to plow with the loader on. I would also expect the loader to cost more than the cub. While I'm sure it's neat I'd look to find another tractor to be a loader tractor. Something with power stearing and a stronger front end. Personally I've been wanting a used Termite type loader/backhoe--found one for $6500 but can't afford that now.
