Plow depth adjuster

Postby Dennis Olson » Thu Jul 08, 2004 5:33 pm

I am looking at purchasing a moldboard plow for my cub. When I looked at the implement manual it shows a depth adjusting lever that is not included with the plow I am looking at. Is this required with the hydraulic lift (rear rock shaft) or is it only needed with the manual lift. Thanks for your patience with a rookie.

Yes, it is needed for both. To mount the plow, the drawbar is turned around facing forward and installed in the mounting holes in the front of the final drives. The locking bolt is removed from each side, and the depth control lever bolts to the final drive via a dog bone shaped link . This allows the depth control lever to move the drawbar up and down, which changes the angle of the plow and controls the depth. The levers regularly sell on Ebay for the $50 to $100 price range.

It's not a function that a piece of 3/4" all thread, a few nuts, some scrap steel, a stick welder, and a little farmer ingenuity couldn't replicate.

True, but if you are plowing ground where the density varies, getting off to adjust it on a regular basis would be a pain. You can also make them from the adjustment levers from old trailing plows.

Actually, I was suggesting that you make something similar to the lead-screw type depth adjust on later fast hitches, with a crank located on the right fender that you can adjust from the seat.

I misunderstood your intention, that sounds like a good idea and easily made.
