Farmall Cub

I'm striking out finding a 5/8" shank hitch ball for my draw bar. Three auto parts, one trailer store- none can get it. Anyone have ideas for a source, if not I'll have to ream out a hole to accomadate my 3/4" shank.

Try Walmart I think that they have them.

I posted earlyer that my local auto parts could get these.
After seeing this post I called them guess what there are still listed but not avliable any more.
What they suggested was to buy a ball of the size you need then cut the shank off & drill & tap the bottom for a 5/8" bolt.

I thought those things were as common as dirt. Saw one in Northern the other day.

I have already drilled mine out to 3/4 , I shouldn't have as I don't get to use or work on my cub much. I was looking on the site you posted and could only find that one size 1 7/8 , with the 5/8 internal thread. I am not to good with the computer but thought someone who has equipment with other sizes could get what they need in that 5/8 size. I also thought if some folks new they came in all sizes and really wanted to be original they could weld a 5/8 to 3/4 hardened bushing and a little grinding and some paint and thats that. I have 3 trailers and a drag type disk all set up with ball type couplers. Here's how I solved the problem. Extending the ball behind the drawbar makes hitching to the equipment easier than if it was directly mounted to the drawbar. The ball is convertible so I can change from 1 7/8 inch to 2 inch without having to unbolt it. If you can find an old hitch of the type that used to bolt to drawbars (1960-1970 vintage) it's an easy matter to make one for the tractor.

Thanks for all the ideas & suggestions. I'll try WalMart and Northern. If I can't find one, then I'm going w/ John's sloution- I like it!

Here's another option, compliments of Brian Piersol. It utilizes a drawbar and ball from a vehicle receiver hitch and can be mounted above or below the Cub drawbar. It is made from 2 inch square tubing and 1/2 inch bar stock.

Don, I like your setup, and if I were doing it over I would probably go that way, but when I first built mine I had all the steel on hand and only had to buy the balls (2 tractors). I'm to cheap to start over and have to buy the ball mounts when I have a setup that works.

I have a set up like Brian's and it is very handy as you can use different drawbars for different height trailers or different size balls.
