It is impressive that the Diesel torque rises even at 2500 rpm. Many Diesels have peak torque at 1500 -1800 rpm. And Flamey torque drops like a rock after 2500 rpm. But the torque curve for Flamey is excellent within the intended engine speed range.

I was wondering about the drop in torque at 1100 RPM for Flamey. I would have expected a smoother curve. What might account for that dip?

Thanks Raymond. Everyone will notice a drastic drop at the 1500 rpm range. You could tell the difference running the dyno. We figured something is hanging up in the governor. Any thoughts from anyone else??

Remember, to run the test, the engine starts out at full throttle and the dyno creates a load at 100 rpm intervals until the engine reaches the chugging area.

Note. There wasn't any chugging area with CUBOTA. It raced at full throttle and still was pouring black smoke out down to the 1100 range.

I'm helping Rick out with some Excel tips. Below is a better shot of the Cubota dyno results. I'm sure that Rick will have more to come soon.

Thanks, guys, for getting the graph posted. Even though it only shows up to 2500, it pretty well covers the the peaks. If I remember correctly, 2600 showed a slight decrease. The most impressive part, to me, is the wide, smooth torque curve and the fact that peak torque and peak horsepower are so close together. The engine is rated for 3600, so I was surprised to find the peaks in the 2500 area. I see no reason to run the tractor more than 3000 rpm. I think that's a good thing! From my position on the seat, the tractor felt very good on the dyno and was not giving up easy. You gotta love the black smoke!

I'm glad to see someone has figured out how to post the results to the forum! Now y'all need to write up a "how-to" for us computer dummies.

The power output from that diesel compares favorably to the Cub engine. That sure is a long, flat torque curve.

Send me the values (torque and HP only) from 2500 to 3000. I think I may be able to add it to the original Excel sheet (maybe)

Hi: I'm not familar with Cubota and Flamey but I take it from the posts that if Cubota is running a C60 it is modified to up the RPM and thus the HP. If it is a C60 what kind of mods have been done? The HP and torque curves for Flamey role off starting around 1900, is that the normal curve you would expect from the earlier Cubs?

Cubota is not running a C-60. It has a Kubota diesel. Gary and Larry can speak more about the specs.

Thanks Raymond for the link !! Looking back at the dyno results from Cubfest '07, you can definitely see the drop at the 1500 rpm mark back then, but there has been a good increase in HP and torque due to several things dad and I have tinkered with since then. Overall I'm very happy. The cub runs sweet, just like I assume it would have rolling off the lot 60 years ago. I have never noticed any "problem" with it when mowing grass, so I never really considered it to have much of a governor problem. We will probably look at it sometime in the future, but for now the cub is running great and I'd hate to tear into it and create a problem. As was stated at the Bash this weekend, my problem is so minuscule that it probably would have never been noticed had it not been for dyno results.

Thanks again, Rick, for letting us play with your dyno this weekend ! It sure is a lot of fun to see what kinds of numbers these old cubs are pushing ! 8)
