Burning up PTO shaft collar pins!

I've replaced my PTO shaft collar pin twice in the last month! When the PTO starts grinding and poping out, I remove the pin and it's black and ground down to nothing! The collar and shaft seem to be in good shape. I'm getting about six hours of use, then I have to replace it. Six hours of use to three hours of repair is not a good ratio!

Jim,

I would check the bushing in the end of the spline shaft.

As Donny said, check the pto pilot bushing. Also check how far the collar is engaging. You should fell it start to lock up about the midpoint of the lever travel. If it doesn't engage until the very end of the travel the taper on the very end of the splines will put pressure on the pin wearing it.
