'48 cub overhaul/decal question

Postby mymariah » Wed Jul 21, 2004 1:37 pm

2 questions - first the simple one
What's the difference between "late" and early cub decals?

We have just started overhauling the cub - we can get parts for about $400 at local napa - seems to be cheaper than anywhere on the net. thoughts?

basically its piston,rings,wrist pins,main/rod bearings,gasket set/seals

If you are having any work done at a motor/machine shop have them quote you on these parts. The machine shop I used was lower than NAPA.

There are three different decal sets.

The earliest cubs were known as "circle cubs". The hood decal read "McCormick Deering Farmall". There was a round decal with CUB in it that went on the downlegs of the hood. Used the first few months of 1947.

The next hood decal used read "McCormick Deering Farmall Cub". The circle decal for the downlegs was eliminated. This was used from late 1947 to July of 1949.

From 1949 on, the hood decal read "McCormick Farmall Cub".
