Farmall Cub

Well If you have been keeping up with my crankcase oil leak you know I have to split the tractor............

I would appreciate anyone advising me of the step by step procedure for doing this. My CUB is equipped with touch control. Are there any special tricks?, things you have learned?, etc.

I know the instructions say this; but, it's an important point. Do not forget to put a block of wood between the front right (As you look at the tractor) axle and the lower radiator support.

When you pull the tractor apart, the engine weight will rotate the whole front of the tractor down on to the front axle. When you put in the block, this keeps the the front from turning down.

Be sure to support both halves evenly, if ti sags you can bend the transmission shaft.

If you have an older model, the rear main seal that is now available has an outer diameter a few thousands smaller than the original. The seal should require quite a bit of force to reinstall it. If it goes in easily you will either need to use some kind of a sealer around the outer edge or get a newer model seal retainer (approx $100) for it to keep it from leaking or spinning in the housing.

Are you sure the leak is coming from the engine and not the transmission?

Just take a sniff of the oil that is leaking out. Gear oil has a very distinct smell because of the sulfer content.
