This looked like a nice clean magneto...I still have not received it.

I would like to have it inspected and restored electronically but there is no one in my area who can do it.

I would like to know what is involved to restore the mag for use on a '47 cub restoration. Or, can anyone recommend a person who could do the work. Any idea of how much it would cost to have it restored?

Mike, I missed that one, or you'd have had to pay a little more for it. I see the bolt for the kill switch and points is missing, may have some other internal parts gone. Hope you don't run into the same thing changing from distributor to mag I did when I first got Missy (before Bud refurbished it). I had a mag I had rebuilt and decided to put it on the night before Cubarama. After about an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't time it I realized the distributor was on it because the governor gear hadn't been timed when it was last reassembled and the mechanic (benefit of the doubt) told the owner the mag was bad and sold him a distributor (the mechanic kept the mag).

Merry helps me check mags out, she holds the ground lead and I chase her around the shop with the hot lead.

I mean where else could you expect to find a J4 magneto repair professional that wires up girls to a magneto and then chases them around the room....only at cub.com..

You know when I first heard about esnipe, I thought..What a lousy thing to do. But it seems to be the way of the world on EBay so yea I'm a sniper now too... beats being the snipeee. Esnipe's inexpensive to use and has only failed me once (their server went down) when I was bidding on an old radio which I would have bought except for their problem. They repaid me with a bunch of free snipes though. Also saves alot of time. Put in your best shot and walk away.

Are you going to Cubarama next month?

Mike, I never did use a snipe service but I sure did enjoy getting my adrenaline up waiting for 9-seconds left before I clicked the bid-button. Since IBM took over eBays computer functions I cant snipe no more cause most times now it makes me sign in twice and then the auction is over before I re-sign in.

I would love to go to Cubarama but thats just too many states & miles away for me to travel.

The magneto that i got on Ebay came today. It looks great. Has the IH distribtor cap that looks fine, the rotor looks like it could be replaced. Are these parts available through Case IH or C & G?

Anyway, I had the thing in my left hand and was wiping it off with a rag soaked in thinner. I rotated the commutator or flywheel thing, the rotor turned fine, but I really got zapped...Lucky I didn't
set myself on fire. My left hand was on the coil

Mike, be sure to keep your hand close if you spin it again. There is no spark gap protection in a J4. If you spin it without a load, you can burn it out. It might have been painful but you may have saved your mag.

I just bought a rotor and pinion gear from my case dealer on Saturday.
The rotor was about $22.00 and the pinion gear was about $12.00.

You can always run a ground strap from the seat of your pants to the ground.
