Looks good Scott. One work of caution, when traveling with the sickle vertical take something (baler string, wire, small piece of chain, etc) and tie the pitman up at the sickle end. there is an ear that the pitman is supposed to catch behind when the sickle is up to keep it from sliding down and the end of the sickle dragging on the ground. They don't always hold, and when they get low enough to catch on something they bend the sickle, break the pitman, etc. I learned the hard way. :(

John,
I thought about that.
When I used the chain, it wrapped around the bar and held everything in place. How would an added piece to the rod that would sit between the knives work?
Too hard on the blades?
Slip something over it like nylon, wood, MIL's picture?

A piece of metal in the blades would hold it, but would dull the knife where you had it. The knives would probably just slice a piece of nylon, but a wooden block would work if you made something to hold it in place.

Chuck,

It appears from your posts that you are going to do a great job of
rebuilding your mower. One thing you may want to look at is the
condition of the ledger plates. If they are heavily worn you will not
get much benefit out of a sharpened sickle blade. They also have
a special countersunk head rivet and braded on the under
or gound side. They can be removed by carefully grinding off the
brad and then punched out witha round square-cut punch. They
are a little tricky to replace.
