I have disconnected the positive battery terminal to remove the gas tank for cleaning. Do I have to polarize the generator after reconnecting the battery or do I just reconnect and go. Thanks, Bob

Bob,
Yes you should always polarize the generator whenever the battery has been disconected.

Many times, if no components are changed, re-polarization is not necessary. If you start it up and it charges, you are good to go. If not, you will need to re-polarize.
