Farmall Cub

I have never seen one of these on a Cub. Were they available on the Cub. What years were they available. Style of lamp looks like the early years. Cool light

Mike, we had a light like that on a 50 Farmall M. I believe it was also common on cubs as well.

i thought i remember Dan England having one of those, but a search didn't turn up the thread. early cubs only, and kinda hard to find, if i recall correctly. Jim probably could put dates on it.

According to my manuals these where a option. I have one on mine , but it was a donor from a farmall super C. It was probably that extra $10.00 option no one could afford in those days.

Yup, it was available for Cubs. There actually was three versions of rear lamps available. Not sure which thread had the details, but I am sure BD, Jim B or George will remember and post the link.

I have the one with the rotary switch and dual bulbs inside - one white other red. I am hoping to get one like the pic you posted for Granny and maybe if I am really lucky the third one for Jethro or maybe Jed when I get him!

Mike I wish I knew you wanted one I saw @4 at Portland in various conditions and OEM now reproduces them for @ $110.From the research I have done they were used on the 1947 and early 48s then the switch was made to the 2 bulb light with the rotery switch. But someone may have more information. Steve

I have also heard these called "hen and chick lights" with the red one being called the chick. I have a new old stock "chick" for sale. If anyone is interested PM me.

I got one just like that on my 1951. Don't know if it came from the factory or was an add-on. I was able to get a replacement gasket and bulbs to fix it up like new.

As long as dealers still had these lights in stock, I am sure they got sold to anybody for any model tractor. I would guess that the next version, with the red light in the main reflector, were less expensive to produce.

For those of you that do not yet have the CUB issue of Red Power Magazine, it is still available as a back issue (HINT, HINT, HINT).

Quoting my article on Cub changes, the lighting section says:

"The first change was the addition of the optional combination rear light and tail light. This was the version with the tail light in a small unit on top of a conventional work light. This light was authorized in March 1948 and probably was available as an accessory from the dealers shortly thereafter. Eventually, this light could be ordered from the factory, installed on a tractor. It was not listed as an option in sales brochures as late as 1950, but was listed in 1951. By the beginning of 1952, this light was replaced by the version with the red tail lamp set in the reflector of the rear work light."

Could that issue of Red Power magazine be purchased at a run of the mill news stand? I would be very interested in getting a copy.
