Hi All,
Has anyone know if there is dry cell battery that will work in a Cub?
(Optima,ect)
The right size as well as being 6 volt.
I know they are kind of expensive, but in the long run it would save the corroding of the battery box.
Thanks,
Ron

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Hi,
Thanks for the replies!!
You are right, it is a sealed lead acid battery.
I have found an add for a 6 volt Optima selling for $104.
They are pricey, but they are suppose to last longer than the original type.
Plus, you don't have to worry about the leaking acid.
I have a new battery box that I will carry with me to be sure it will fit.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron, if you mount yours like Bill Poor did under the operator's platform you can use your battery box for a 6-pack cooler to keep you refreshed while mowing.

I remember seeing that post with the Optima mounted underneath the platform. It was mounted on its side I think and was smaller in size than a group-1 6-volt standard battery. I have had an Optima in my truck for over 5 years now & I will never buy a different brand cause this one spoilt me.
Then came Bronson

Well, I think I may have found the reason he mounted the battery underneath the floorboard.
Looking at the Optima 6 volt battery, the dimensions are:
10" long
7.8" tall
3.5" wide
The battery box is only 9" long.
Maybe there is a different model that is shorter??
