Just wanting to know how long to run the tractor with kerosene in the tranny. As I'm in the early steps of a Fall project to get my 49 cub back into shape...

Run it around a while then pull the cover and look. If the crud isn't all loosened up, go some more. If the kerosene is too contaminated, put in fresh kerosene and do it again.

A question I have been wondering aobut. Is there any eeason a pressure washer souldn't be used to flush all the crud into the bottom of the transmission where you can flush it out with less kerosene? You would have to be sure everything was dry before putting the cover on.

John, what about pressure washing, flushing with kerosene and then after drying, spray with WD 40 to coat the surfaces.

I'm going to try pressure washing mine out. Gotta go right now and get all new gaskets, will try the pressure washing when I get back, with "Purple Power" degreaser mixed in for good measure...

BD, I will also try the WD-40 for grins... Easier than buttoning everything back together and doing the kerosene thing maybe.

OK, pressure washed it out... What a mess!!! :shock: :shock: But it came out looking pretty good in the end.

Got more grease and skoodge on me than on the ground, but it's pretty sparklin' clean. I filled the tranny with 2 quarts of Wal*Mart 90W, and I ran it around the yard for a while - even hooked up the Woods mower deck and did some mowing! Woohoo!

It sounds a little louder than before - probably because it only has 2Q of liquid in it instead of 5Q of water/skoodge, and I am having difficulty getting the PTO to stay engaged, there's a lot of grinding and popping out when I shift into gear. I wonder if I put it back together right. I'm pretty sure I got the PTO lever into the slot where it's supposed to go - I didn't have a "fork" like the manual calls for, just a little bend in the end of the lever from what I could tell through the back cover...

Can't find the reinstall manual but I'm assuming it was OK to put the 2Q of 90W into the large refill plug just behind the shift lever. :?:

But I'll be draining the Wal*Mart 90W and putting in the HyTran I picked up today anyway, after I let it run and slosh around for a while.

Allenlook, the tranny holds 3 1/2 pints of fluid. Either the 90 wt. or hy-tran.

I just found that in the manual! Oops... Well it'll slosh around real good and then I'll drain it out and put in the good stuff... The guy at the Case IH place told me 2Q today, but that didn't seem right, I should have checked FIRST!

@ quarts is 4 pints. Big dog just gave you 3 1/2 pints as the number so you have 1/2 pint left over

Yeah, the 1/2 pint doesn't seem like a big deal, but I don't want it to be overfilled, so I'll fill it right when I put in the HyTran.
