Where to split?

I need to replace a gear in the tranny case. I broken shifter fork was only part of the problem; I also broke a tooth. Can I split it where the torque tube mates with the tranny case (don't have to take hood apart) or do I have to split where tube mates with engine? Thanks

I split mine from the back. It seemed like less to take apart.

You will have to seperate the torque tube from the tranny case anyway to remove the bolts that hold the bearing retainer on the main shaft, so unless you intend to also work on the clutch there is no need to split it at the engine.
