A Gassy Mess...

Postby allenlook » Tue Sep 21, 2004 9:55 am

Not me, the tractor!

When I fill the tank 2/3 full or so, and use it with that new big double-hockey-puck gas cap, I get gas sloshing out around the base of the cap and dripping down the hood.

Not a lot of it, but enough to make a real black-tinged mess of my hood? The top of the filler neck is smooth, and the rubber gasket looks OK inside the cap...

Anyone else having this problem?

Allen - is the surface across the gas tank neck level and even? IH dealers used to have a tool that could be used to gently pry the lip back up to make good contact. Or, you might try using a second gasket on the cap.

I have to admit though, that from your subject line I thought maybe you had eaten some beans for supper last night.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

i could only surmise that the locking metal for the cap is deformed or the gasket surface is not level. either could cause the gasket tonot make contact all the way around.
