My rearend stopped leaking

As part of an old post I had noted that the left final drive was leaking schmoo (a very technical term), but since I drained the 5 quarts of water out of the tranny, the leak has miraculously stopped :)

I think I'll just leave the final drive buttoned up unless someone with BTDT tells me I oughta take a look at it.

If you haven't already, remove the fill plug and check the condition of the fluid in the final drive housing. If it is milky, remove the pan, clean it and replace the fluid. It's gonna cost you a gasket but it's worth it. If the fluid looks good, don't worry about it.

Too dark...

Too dark to check the final drive drain tonight, so I'm poring over the parts manual, but don't see any reference to the drain plug.

I'll have to give it a look-see tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

There is no drain plug. Just a fill / level plug. It's the large plug on the inner surface of the casting with the square recessed hole. Just stick a 1/2" ratchet in the hole to loosen it. To drain it, you remove the pan.

Crud.

Oh Crud. Literally, probably.

Might just as well take the pans off, then, because I can be certain they're full of crud as long as this thing has set!

I gotta admit that when I first read the title to your post, I was a little concerned that I was gonna learn more than I wanted to about you.

Heh heh.

I'm a frustrated real estate novelist... You know, the kind that describes the mouldering deer camp as a "cozy chalet, waiting for your special touches" :D

I figure if I can put up a good descriptive title for a thread, or a title that piques everyone's interest, maybe I'll get more/better responses.

There IS a prize for the best title, right?

Well, there is an area on the home page of this site for creative writing efforts. If you haven't checked out the stories, you should take the time to read them and maybe make a contribution of your own.

Found it...

I thought it was more because of the chocolate coloured variety -- ExLax or something like that???

Of course with the colour of what was coming out of Granny's Tranny, I thought somebody had fed her that stuff too :!:
