Generator Officially Toast

Loading some wood on the wagon yesterday and heard a thump and a squealing sound. By the time I got the tractor shut down, the generator belt had broken from heat build up on the fan pully.

The generator simply locked up tight as a drum. I went ahead and finished the day's chores and pulled the battery to charge last night.

I haven't been able to pull the generator yet. I have never seen one seize like that though. I guess the front bearing went. It didn't feel too hot to the touch though.

I really like working on my tractors, however, I use the cub all the time for just about everything and I hate to have her down. Just got her buttoned up from the log through the radiator trick. I forgot how much I loved the taste of ethylene glycol.

Denton, Had you been oiling the oil cups on your generator . I was just curious if it froze up even after being oiled, Not questioning your maintainance procedures.

Yes, I had oiled them regularly. I'm not even positive it was they bearing. The way this thing locked up something inside might have broken on the rotor or something. When I get it off the tractor, I will report. Thanks ds

You may have had a brush or a brush holder let go.

You propably oiled the front bearing to much.

A generator overhaul will be about 45 to 60 dollars.

When I rebuilt my generator I used sealed bearings front and rear. Now the oil cups are just there to look at

Anybody know any good folks I could ship this thing to for an overhaul. I simply don't have time this time of year.

Denton, I hear good things about these folks. I haven't had a need to try them yet but someone on the board has.
