Farmall Cub

I own a 68 cub Ser#231005j and have a few questions.

1. What paint codes should be used for this tractor?

2. Where there any changes to the tractors from 64 to 75?

3. If I change the serial number plate out durring my restoration but keep the same serial number and old serial plate will it lower the value of my tractor?

I also own a 48 cub and it has about an inch of varnish from old gas in the bottom of the tank. What is the best and cheapest way to clean this out? I was thinking of using "berrymans Chem Dip" but that may be expensive.

For the paint codes, please refer to the Paint, Decals & Other Finish ? on the Manual Server. The codes are all there including cross-references to other paint manufacturers.

I would think not. Many have done it. I would keep the original S/N Plate in a safe place. One that is safe enough, but not so safe that you forget where that safe place is. DON'T ASK

Simplest answer would be to take it to a Rad and Tank Shop. They should be able to clean and seal with Red Coat for around $75.00US. I had it done to Ellie-Mae my 48 and am so happy with it that Granny my 47 is going to get the very same treatment I think it will also be cheaper than doing it yourself, and a heck of a lot safer.

I had looked at your paint chart before I posted the questons, but I could not determine wich white to use for my tractor. I would like to thank you for your reply and the wealth of knowledge you have on your site.

One word of advice to all.

My 68 has a fan that was ruined by the privious owner. He had removed the oil screw and installed a grease zert in an attempt to make lubrication easier. Though this did make lubrication seemingly easier, it did not actually lubricate the bearing as the slinger could not move the grease in to the bearing as it would with oil. The grease simply gets slung to the walls of the fan assembly and some may come out the rear of the assembly and get all over every thing. At least this shows me that the previous owner tried to maintain the tractor. The point is lubericate your fan properly with oil not grease. It may be a pain to remove the hood if you have to but it will save you some money and stress. If you have greased your fan take it a part and clean the grease out and hopefully it is not to late.
