Fuel lines and underslung exhaust
After reading several posts on the topic I've decided to replace the rubber fuel line on my '57 Cub with a steel line. I've read several posts about size, material, fittings, etc., and I think I'm clear on all that. The question I have is, what shape will the fuel line have to be to work with an underslung exhaust set-up? I've seen several pics of lines w/o underslung exhaust in the archives, but was unable to find anything with an underhood exhaust pipe arrangement. My inclination is to bring the line under the hydraulic lines and then make the turn to carb so that the line doesn't come too close to the hot exhaust pipe. Does anyone have a picture of an original set-up?

Slappy, I found 1 picture of my lo-boy with part of the fuel line visible. I will try to get a couple of other angles of this and post later today.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

The line routing is the same, whichever exhaust system you have. Both of my tractors with underslung exhausts came with home made lines. So I worked from pictures in the various manuals to get the routing as close as I could. The line comes fairly close to the exhaust system, but does not touch (not room for a finger between them). If you get the bends in the right places, you can make the line with only 2 bends.

Thank you, for the responses. I'm not an originality nut, but my experience has been that IH engineers seemed to have had good reasons for their designs. I know that subtle changes I have made when fabricating a part for one of my tractors have at times, come come back to bite me. John's comment about the potential for debris to collect in low spots an excellent example.

Mike,
Well done! It looks really good. I knew you could do it. Did you use a pulley as we discussed at CubFest?
By the looks of your job I'd say you are now qualified to write a "how to" for Rudi.
