Headlight reflectors

Postby WJ » Thu Oct 21, 2004 10:49 pm

Just wondering what is the best way to spruce up the reflectors in the headlight is. Should I chrome them or just paint them??

What have you guys done or have seen??

Thanks for any input.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

Have your wife shine them up when she is polishing the silver. What is the name of that rag in the blue can for polishing silver?

Many people using Wadding Polish, but make sure there is no grit or it will make it worse. I have painted some, but they are not as bright as chromed.

I found mine at PEP Boys. It was in the wheel cleaner section.

 Here is an article I found on a google search. I guess he has no web-page but you can call, Fax or e-mail him. If anybody calls him it would be appreciated if you would post any info of his procedure, prices, etc.

Bill Atwood owner. Uvira has a process to put a glass covered polished aluminum coating on headlight reflectors. They will stay in good condition for years (perhaps decades). Much better than silver plating.

If all you want is a brighter output, try lining your reflectors with aluminum foil. Can't be seen unless you take them apart.

  Hey YD., Thats a great idea but it takes some time to flip the foil over from the shine`y side to the dull side & vice/versa to provide high & low beams.

With a little practice, you can get your time down to about 15 minutes per light. Everything has it's price.

If you coat that foil with possum fat you can cut that time down to 5 minutes. :)

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.
