Coolant Change

Postby mmann » Wed Oct 27, 2004 8:39 am

Thanks to you experts, my Cub project is going great. :D The next two items are fluid changes.

Oil change with filter job should be real easy.
Anything out of the ordinary should I watch for? :?:

Next, the coolant change. I know to mix fluid with water before adding. But do I just remove the plug at bottom of the radiator, letting it drain?
What about the fluid in the block? Anthing out of the ordinary here? :?:

I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks in advance.

If it hasn't been changed for a while (oil), there is usually some sludge in the bottom of the oil filter drain pipe. Other than that, it is a straightforward procedure.
The drain plug on the radiator casting is the low point of the system. Everything will drain from there. If you see a lot of deposits or crud (technical term), flush with clear water before re-filling.

The Bigdog knows. No flushing by running the engine needed, the drain plug is the low point on the system. Excellent.

Next project: lube the two back axle housings(?) that I read about in the manual.

thanks again, you are a confidence builder.
