Cub with 1000 loader

Hi, This is my first post although I have read alot of your posts and gained a wealth of information. My question is I have a chance to buy a 1960"s cub with a IH 1000 loader on it and from what I read here you guys are split as to the usefulness of the loader. Wondering if I should pass on it or get it as another toy or sell the loader and keep the tractor.

Mike, the 1000 is a neat implement. It just isn't intended for heavy duty service. As long as you don't overdo it you will get a lot of enjoyment out of it. If you buy it with the intention of using it for major front end loader work, you will be disappointed. You can always sell the loader and buy another cub and a half-dozen implements.

I would buy it and use it. I had one for 7 years and sold it due needing money bad. Got 1900 out of it on ebay.
I bought it when I had a two acre lot that I was doing a lot of work on. It will move dirt and gravel a lot better than a wheel barrow will and not track like a bigger tractor will. Great for filling in trenchs and moving dirt from one spot to another. Will pick up 550 lbs max and is hard to steer at that load. Fine with dirt or stone in bucket. Highly recomend adding weight to rear end. I added a three point hitch with a 5" box blade, helped a lot with the steering. Good in heavy snow that needs piled up. Had a hook welded on the bucket used it to fasten a chain to and pick equipment up. Great to load disk up on trailer and use somewhere. Very handy to have around. I didn't have any problems with the front end. Takes about 1/2 hour to put on or take off once you figure it out and have done it. Used tractor to mow with and had the loader on and off numerous times.
Still own the tractor and someday maybe another loader. Wife and daughter out of college now, however now live in town with little lot.

I have a front loader with a set of slide in forks and a backhoe on my "52 and I use it at least two to three times a week moving things. If you've never owned one, you would'nt know how handy it really is. Don't be afraid to buy it.

That is the first time I ever saw a setup like that. Do you have any more pictures. What did you have to do to get a backhoe setup on a Cub. What kind of work can it do?

I dont see the hydraulic lines for the loader going to the touch control manifold. Is there another pump on the PTO for the back hoe??

Did you need a speed reduction and or reverser for the pump on the hoe???

I found the woods backhoe for sale in the local tradin' post paper. It was a 1998 and was mounted on a Kabota diesel tractor. They delivered it for me and just pulled two pins in the back and one on the belly and lowered it onto the ground using the hydraulics that came with the hoe and then when it was on the ground, they disconnected the pump from their pto and that was it. I cut off all the Kabota brkts from the subframe, backed the cub over the framework, jacked it up into place where it looked like it should go, and about three weeks later was digging holes. The pump is mounted under the seat platform and is drivin' by the pto shaft with a 12 tooth sprocket which drives a 36 tooth sprocket on a new shaft I made to drive the pump. I found the front bucket, dual control valve and roll bar at some local auctions and picked up the box tubing for the front arm at the local steel scrap yard and found a pic of the 1000 loader and started cutting and welding. I have an 8 inch and a 16 inch bucket and it handles either one great, just ask the neighbors that found stuff for me to dig. I use the front bucket most. It sure saves the back.
