6 volt sealed beam lights

Postby cjpenny89 » Wed Nov 17, 2004 1:53 pm

Have any of you found sealed beam head light bulbs from some where other than OEM tractor parts? I just have a hard time spending $33 for one light when all three of mine are burned out. I am tempted to replace the sealed beam ones with the old bullet style ones that take the 1133 bulbs. I like them better anyway and if a light burns out it cost me $2.50 instead of another $33 that is just a lot of money for lights when they could last 5 minutes or 50 years. you just don't know how long they will last. any ideas out there?

6 volt sealed beam bulbs

Postby PINE-KNOT » Wed Nov 17, 2004 3:23 pm

I believe I bought some of those a few years back. Seems like they were about $15 each. I think the were 30 watt sealed beam. Is that what you're talking about? If you can't find any, let me know and I'll see if I have any extras.

If the correct police ain't looking

The battery back up lights on exit signs are 6-v and they are the right size to fit in the cub headlight shell .
I have used them on one that had the seal beam in the pancake housing.
you use the reflector bulb(which is replacable) and lense wire it inside the housing just set it in your gasket and tighten the screw on the band.
Used ones are pretty easy to come by check with an electrican if you know anyone or any buisness that is doing a major remodeling cause they usually just go in the dumpster any way 8)

The flat style with a single lug in the center are basicly impossible to find except from OEM. I cut an old one open a couple years ago and put a bulb in. (They actually have a bulb inside). I soldered an 1133 into the reflector and also soldered a small brass nut on the tip of the bulb to screw the wire on. Since I didn't have a place to use it just then, it went on a shelf where it still sits. (This was before the OEM repro was available). I just wanted to see if I could do it and have it work.

The 4511 and similar bulbs described in this thread are the PAR36, 2 lug lamps used in the later ('58 and up) round style Cub lights. I have never tried to put one of these into the flat style housing, but others (including Ralph above) have claimed success.

PAR36 bulbs are very common, in a variety of voltages and wattages. I just went to the Grainger web site and did a key word search using the 2 words "lamp" and "PAR36". Got 110 hits. Only a small number were 6 volts, but it shows how common that shape is.

Ramon. The industry standard is a #4511. To use the Moyer, at the home page, click on "Wagner" lighting on the left hand side. It will list all the standards. Shipping is kind of expensive, but it's not too far for me to go there IF I'm in that area. Otherwise, go to Walmart or a car parts store and see if they have a #4511. Last time I bought, I got Philips.......

4511 6 V or 12V

Postby Ramon » Thu Nov 18, 2004 6:39 am

Sorry guys, just want to be sure, so 4511 is 6V, 12V or can be both? Just want to make sure. My Cub is 12V so that is what I would need. I might go with Napa to avoid shipping. So these type bulbs will fit in the standard Cub light fixture? Why does OEM tractors sell them for so much?
Thanks again for all the help!
Ramon

Postby Ramon » Thu Nov 18, 2004 2:52 pm

So does anyone have the 12V sealed beam part number. That Brite-lite website sounds pretty good.
Thanks
