Front Hub

After removing over 50 years of grease covered by paint, I am discovering a lot of things that were previously hidden. For example, the front hub shown in the photo below has a screw that is not noted in my parts book. Maybe it was added for a grease fitting? Also, what does the number 4 designate? The other hub has the number 3, instead of 4.

Location of the Screw? in the hub would be a good location to install a zerk. The only way to know for sure is to back out the screw or clean up the inside of the hub and see if the screw is hollow.

I have drilled and tapped hubs to installed zerks. A shot grease from the grease gun every so often beats disassembling the hub to clean and repack the bearings.

The numbers 3 & 4 are very likely to be the cavity in the mold, In other words they may have a 10 on pattern with each part numbered from 1 to 10 to desinate the cavity number in the mold. At least thats how we do it now. ( work in a steel foundry ) :)
