Sometimes using a hacksaw blade works good for fixing damaged threads.

cccub,

Count the number of threads for an inch. They are fine threads so if you're anything like me you'll have to count 3 or 4 times   A number 1 thread file goes to 24 tpi. 8)

Axle thread count

Postby Bill V in Md » Fri Nov 26, 2004 8:06 am

Thread count is 18 tpi. Pretty tough on the eyes (mine at least) counting thread this fine, but I also verified this is correct with a thread file.

Years ago I bought a box of misc. at an auction sale. One of the items was a thread gauge. Easier than trying to count threads.

Lacking a thread gauge, it's possible to determine the pitch easily by finding a bolt that would mesh with the threads. In this case, it would be a 5/16 NC, which is 18 TPI. Saves squinting and counting. Just not as handy as a gauge.
