Best $20.00 you can spend on a Cub accessory

Postby Doug Brown » Thu Dec 02, 2004 7:30 pm

I checked out BigDogs post under Great Looking Steps and took his advise and ordered one. Got it today, put it on the Cub and started doing chores that required frequent mounts and dismounts. The step worked great, looks great, and my knees didn't pain before, during or afterwards. Unless your in your early 20's, this is a must have piece of equipment. :D

Sure 65 will be here before you know it and they may not be available then and it they are they may be $300. Remember a Cub was once $545 new.

Could someone direct me to the proper place to find the steps? I've checked the classified, and either I'm missing something, or the ad had been moved.

Thanks,

Rick

I need two new knees so getting on and off my cub even with a step is painful. What I do is start the Cub from the ground and after a short warm up I get on the draw bar then step on the rear rock shaft arm and then raise the rockshaft. I step right off and on to the seat. Works good for me and I'm 62 years young.

Stepping from the drawbar to the rockshaft is a long step for me. Since one of mine is a hand lift, that still has limited benefits.

I think the step would work for me if I had something solid that I could pull on. I don't like pulling on the steering shaft. I'm 6'4 and 250lbs so I might bugger things up.

The step looks great and I may copy and modify for my particular need. I certainly would recommend the step for the more agile among us...

I don't think the steering wheel will pull off. I'm 66 next Sunday and am 6ft. 5 inches and weigh 235lbs. I have no trouble putting my foot on the floor board and pulling up. I'm very blessed that I am still able to work everyday. But am lazy now. I have work I need to be doing now and its on the Cub but I will do it later maybe. I'm waiting on the mailman now for Rick's step. Wish I was waiting on his 3 point hitch and all the other neat stuff he has made.

Don't worry about damaging anything pulling on the steering wheel. Beforee my gatric bypass I weighed 370 pounds (now 259), and used the steering shaft to pull myself up. Since I have a bad right hip Rick custom made one for me that allowed me to step up with my left foot, then raise my right foot to the step and step up again with my left foot. It hangs about 11 inches below the platform and turns out to the side some, and works great. Wish I'd had one years ago. You can see it on the thread "Lookeee what I got today".

Thanks guys. I'm out of diamond plate so that's the end of the steps. Everyone that contacted me will get their step or steps. I have around 20 that will get sent out this next week. If there's any left over from not being paid for, I'll let you know, or if some more material pops up someplace. Thanks again, Rick(billyandmillie) :D

Good. Maybe you can get to working up some plans and a materials list for your 3pt hitch soon? :D

I've got one of your steps on the way and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

BTW, I found the easiest way to climb on the tractor is over the back. On the drawbar, right foot up on the right tire, left foot swing over the seat and down on the platform, right foot to the platform, and down in the seat.
