How to set up 3-point

Postby Jim Hudson » Tue Dec 07, 2004 10:59 am

I been talking to Rick about the 3-point setup. He had to narrow the mower frame to mount the drawbar brackets in between the final drives and the mower. My Danco C2 was already narrow and required the end brackets to fill in the space. My question is do you folks with different types of belly mowers have to have the drawbar brackets installed for hooking up the mower or is it impossible to mount your drawbar while the mower is on. He had a woods mower. I told him using the drawbar brackets for the 3-point and narrowing the mower for them if needed was the way to go.

Good question Jim. My Woods 42" mower is actually mounted on the brackets with the drawbar. If I remember right, it is as if the brackets for mounting the woods mower "sandwich" the drawbar brackets. I'm thinking I may need a couple of "L" brackets mounted on the drawbar on each side with holes in them for the lower lift arms. But then again, I'm not an engineer. If that could work, that would eliminate the under side hassle of hitting other objects in the area. The "L" brackets would have a hole for mounting to the drawbar, and a hole for the cat 0 or cat 1 (however it is designed) pins to mount the lower lift arms on. Hope this makes sense.

One of my Woods mowers has the crossbar that bolts to the drawbar brackets that is typical. The other Woods was for a fast hitch tractor and it has "L" brackets that bolt to the final drives. These "L" brackets are home fabricated but I'm sure they were patterned after factory brackets.

Rick (BillieandMillie) sent me the original ebay of a cub for sale. Has I think a C6 mower. The main thing is the rear mounting for the mower(s) in question. I'm hoping he can figure a way around this.

I don't understand your question. I like the set up they used. It is a lot simpler than the one on the Mott flails. It is somewhat similar to one a neighbor had on a C with a Woods Mower.

I believe with my C2 mower a fellow could take the mower off when needing grader blade or cultivators by removing the 2 lower bolts and leaving the part that the pulleys are mounted to on the tractor. Then The 3 -point lower part could be fastened to the same place or if a fellow wanted mower and 3-point could fasten them to the drawbar brackets.
What ever Rick makes I want one. I just got his step and it is Superior in workmanship in every way. I don't know how much work he is willing to do but he could make lots of the missing parts folks need for mounting there Cub implements. This picture was before I prettied it up. Now its dirty from grass. Click the url at the bottom of the picture.

Question is, can you have your factory drawbar installed at the same time as your belly mower and what kind of belly mower do you have?

Jim
Yes I have a Kub Klipper 60" mower on my cub it is very similar to the C-3 mower. It has always had the draw bar in place while the mower was hooked up and they do not interfear with each other what so ever.

Jim,

With the research Rick is doing, I'd be willing to bet he'll come up with a Jim (sorry for the pun - but then again, not really) Dandy of a design. It looks to me that there really isn't that much difference from the Woods mower and the IH in respect to the rear mounting of the mower(s). If at all possible, I'd like to keep my mower on the tractor and tie it off somehow, to free up the hydraulics for the three point hitch. I've e-mailed Rick, and he has that setup on his cub already. So, I'm going to be in the stands rooting for Rick to come up with a great solution. With what I've seen, he's done some mighty good work on the Cub. Keep up the great work Rick!

The "other" uneducated Cub-engineer Rick :?

And, my drawbar is mounted at the same time as the mower.

Jim I don't have a belly mower. Just trying to follow the thread in my mind. Your mower pictures seem to have a lot simpler and cleaner set up than my Mott Flail.

I've got a Woods 59. The rear bracket clamps on to the drawbar mounting plates.
