Good job Dave...only an idea this good could come from a fellow Pennsylvanian. : )

After using the 'cable pin puller' during the last snow, I wanted to make a change to the way you pull the cable.
I was just using a handle to pull it, but it had to be thru the steering wheel...rather inconvenient, especially when you are trying to turn the front wheels to make the blade pivot.

So, I changed it to a lever...mounted with the steering column bolt.

First, formed up an aluminum channel:


Drilled some holes:


Found an aluminum bar for the lever arm:


Cut a couple pieces of aluminum tubing for spacers:


Here are the parts before assembly:


Testing the assembly:


Mount the channel to the steering post:


Install lever...adjust cable for proper operation...All done


Tried it out and it works great...hardest part was getting the cable adjusted to the right length.
Make sure you set your length for when the blade is down and angled left ( this is when the cable appears to be the 'longest' )

Did you consider just hitching the cable in place of the pulley? Adjust the length so it pulls the pin when lifted fully up.

Jim...not sure I follow...do you mean anchor the cable at the pulley location?
If so, that anchor point raises and lowers the same as the blade, correct?...don't see how it would pull the pin.

I based my my comment on your statement:

there was about a 4" difference in the length of the cable between the blade in the raised position and the fully lowered position.

I assumed some portion of the 4 inches was between the pin and the pulley. Measure it in both positions and see what you get.

I think most if not all of the slack comes from the rotation of the lifting arm as shown in the pic below.
I'll try to measure the differences when I get a chance.

This is only for skinney guys. All the rest of us overweight people need the exercise getting on and off to loose that 20 by 2011 tug.

Oh wait, since we don't get snow down here I forgot about how slick it must be getting on and off. Might save you from braking a hip,arm or leg.

I found that snow on your boots vs. the floor pan can be very treacherous . The possibility of getting
hurt is real. Having a way to adjust the angle of the blade without dismounting is small insurance from an unwanted fall.
I should find a good abrasive surface to add to my floor pan as I have had numerous close calls . Good luck.

New video showing blade angling while plowing snow.
You can see how when the blade hits the snow it causes it to turn the blade.
If you listen, you can her the pin snapping back down into the hole.
Sorry for the jumpiness...hard to drive, hold camera, and pull lever for angling, all at same time.
When my helper is around again, I will have her video from front of the tractor.

Very Nice Dave, I like the creativity.. Now how about a nice "hand whittled" oak pull replacing that plastic one.. I am also wondering if it takes alot of pressure to move that blade side to side.. Would a snow drift have enough resistance as opposed to a stump ? I've got plenty of snow drifts round here not many stumps..

The friction of the blade dragging on the ground is enough to rotate the blade.
