Tires and tire chain question.

Postby pgmrdan » Wed Dec 29, 2004 7:55 am

If I get a Cub with turf tires will tire chains make it handle well enough on snow or would I be better off with agricultural tires?

Will chains make any difference in the snow on agricultural tires?

Yeah, I know! Dumb newbie questions. :)

Dan - turf tires with chains will do fine. You can use the ladder style chains with turf treads. They will do better than ag tires alone.
Chains will work with ag treads but you really need the crossed-link chains to keep them from working down between the lugs of the tires.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

Has anyone found a source for cross-linked chains for the 8.3-24 tires? lists that type of chain only for 9.5-24 tires. Or will the 9.5-24 chains work OK on the smaller width tires?

Just installed 2-link ladder chains on my Cub w/turf tires.....worked great on the recent snow/ice storm. (2-3 inches of snow followed by freezing rain). Nothing but hills , including the township hill that I plowed.... Finally found a second use for my Lowboy with trencher and blade.....Plenty of rear weight, no need for rear weights !!
