I do have a request for help. Originally there was a bearing cap that went on the right end of the shaft to protect the outer end of the bearing, etc. I mounted under 2 of the bolts that hold the bearing, and covered the end of the shaft, and had a cutout to allow access to the grease fitting. I have not been able to find a source for them, does anyone have an idea where to get one.

The paint job is not as good as it looks in the pictures. The shiny paint made me notice a couple of spots where I had missed removing the old grease dirt. I scraped them off with a putty knife and recoated. Plus, it had a lot of pitting I did not try to smooth, just sand blasted and primed.

Finally got to start working on mine a bit. I'll say this, I WISH my chain cover was as "bad" as ya'lls.

Here it is AFTER about 8 hours of welding and grinding.

Mine is ready, just need some dry weather and the engine for my tractor back from machine shop so i don't have to change the despeeder and drawbar brackets over. Since mine is being rebuilt for use I did not bother to clean and paint the tines, they would just get dirty again.

TWITCH TWITCH

AAAARRRRRGGHH!!!!!!!!

I could never find a good picture of the bottom of the chain guard. I looked at my tiller and both sides were flat on the bottom. I didn't realize that it was supposed to be round and have another bolt in the bottom. Heck it's British, and they do wierd things like that. SIGH whats a few more hours of welding .

Actually it is Australian. Howard invented the rototiller. Plus the tractors they built were way ahead of their time.

Hum didn't know they were Australian. I can now say I've worked on something Australian. It's just all the small british cars I've had the pleasere/pain of working on have taught me a few things, The British have a very wierd view on tolerences and fitment, Lucas Prince of Darkness and all the other jokes about wiring on British cars are NOT a joke, and the automatic chassie oiling systems do work very well.

John, the only thing left to do with your Howard is to pack it up and send it to my house.

Nice work, well done.

Way to go, John! Lots of hard work showing!!

If you adapt those tines to paddles, you could get around alot better with all the rain you've had!!

Pretty neat John. I'd like to see it hooked up and working when it's finished. I tried to retro-fit a walk behind tiller to my Cub using the PTO to drive it. I used a 1 to 1 right angle drive but it ran WAY too fast, I was launching rocks and sod quite a ways  ! Looks like you're making good progress. Keep us posted!

I do not have the inspection cover plate on my chain cover housing. Any ideas what to buy for a plate to make this work???
