Talk about wooden wedges falling out

There's been alot of talk lately about those dangerous wooded wedges popping out if not clamped in place. One of the future KubKraft items will be a high tech front axle wedge kit. With the permission of Bill Hudson and his excellent idea, these blocks are in the design stages right now and hopefully will be for sale in the very near future. These next pics are showing the prototype blocks made quickly from wood with a table saw and belt sander, but once the machine shop finishes their mold, the blocks will be injection molded with a high strength polymer.

Please be patient and until these kits are available, be safe with your old wooden wedges that fall out when you least expect it  .

Wow Rick, with words like "injection molded" and "high strength polymer", it sounds like KubKraft is moving forward into the space age. If old Cyrus had guys like you on his team these Cubs would probably still be in production.

What a nice concept !!! Simplicity is the key !! Makes you hit your forehead with the palm of your hand at the same time saying "why didn't I think of that" !! More than an accessory, it's much needed IMO. Great thought Bill & Rick !!! Craig

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback. Remember, these prototype wooden blocks are just a starting point to show the machine shop the basic idea. They'll dial in the shape better than I can. The legs on the blocks will also be shorter than mine to allow for the front axle tubes that have gussets added(thanks Bill). The finished blocks will also be molded to fit the casting better to prevent rotation. Theres been talk about some steps built in too.

NON-ADJUSTABLE front axle----------- Does anyone have a non-adjustable front axle and can measure the diameter. The regular axle tube is 2-3/4" diameter. I received word that the non-adjustable may be slightly smaller.

Thank You,
Rick

I am the kind of guy that worries about everything, and when I am working on one I always jack it up then wedge3 the front axle to avoid extra stress on the engine ears. When I am finished and the wheel is on I remove the wedges before letting it back down. Do you think that doing it this way to put less stress on the front as opposed to wedging before jacking is unnecessary work?
